First Lady Melania Trump held a roundtable event at the White House Tuesday night where she met with technology executives on how the internet and cyber-bullying play into our culture and child development.
The executives included experts from Google, Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat to focus on social media in our world.
“We have focused on opioid abuse and addiction, healthy living, kindness and compassion. Today’s topic of social media and technology is no different.”
The First Lady started the event by speaking about her personal beliefs about how technology is shaping our world and the difficulties often faced by children using it.
“In my role as First Lady, I received many letters from children who have been bullied or feel threatened on social media. I know that each of your companies and groups have been working on these issues for many years and I look forward to hearing what you have learned, what has been accomplished and what progress still needs to be made.”
Critics have attacked Melania for her interest in combatting cyber-bullying, accusing her of being complicit when President Trump does it. Her response to them was epic.
“I am well aware that people are skeptical of me discussing this topic. I have been criticized for my commitment to tackling this issue and I know that will continue. But it will not stop me from doing what I know is right.”
Her spokeswoman also struck back at critics.
“Yes, she knows there is going to be criticism, but she is an independent woman who is doing what she feels is right for children. This should be celebrated, not criticized. It is our hope that people will be supportive of the goal to do all we can to help children to grow up to be happy, healthy and morally responsible adults.”
Do we have an incredible First Lady?
